The Schengen agreement in reality

The purpose of the Schengen Agreement is to eliminate internal borders between member countries of the European Union. As Luxembourg is surrounded by other EU member states that are part of the Schengen Agreement, it no longer has any borderposts or bordercontrols on its borders.

[The old border check-point between Germany and Luxembourg]

This is the border bridge between Luxembourg and Germany. Before Schengen, guard houses were clearly evident next to the white house on the left, on the German side of the Moselle river.

[The border between Luxembourg and France]

This is the borderline between Luxembourg and France, with the Moselle river on the left of the road.

[Notice the change in road materials? That's France!]

Notice the change in color on the road surface just after the sign explaining the speed limits in France? At that line you will be in France.
